Lichenstein & Gursky

When visiting Liverpool I also decided to look in the Tate Gallery to find some artists that may link to my dissertation. I found these particular pieces interesting as they showed different fields that are highlighted in it.

I was initially intrigued by Gursky's image because of the mass of people and colours in it and the size of the image itself. I felt that this would fit well into my dissertation as it shows a mass of people doing a similar thing and being influenced by the people around them, although some do this differently which was illustrated by the people wearing a pop of colour and the area where the papers were on the floor. This showed to me that we are all influenced by the people around us but some feel the innate desire to stand out; this translates to my dissertation as it is a fact that a lot of people have been influenced to live a free from life and more often through choice. These people in the colour are the 'trend starters' as such who are going about their life in their own way unaware of their influence on others - this could be celebrities or coeliacs. Here it shows the meeting together of a lot of people and it shows their differences and similarities something that I could relate to having been, earlier on in that day, part of the allergy show.

This screen print by Lichenstein illustrated an obvious notion to everyone in that a sandwich and 'soda' is a popular staple in everyone's diet and this particular way of showing it a lot of people have seen before. It is very cardboard, staged and unnatural in appearance something that many people nowadays don't seem to mind (such as the market shares of fast food restaurants). It shows how being gluten intolerant is very far from what people are used to and in that something must be done to educate those with this attitude and see that food is natural and that in nature there is so perfect shapes.
